The Night Shift: A Short Film from Fighting Owl Films.

Posted on March 21, 2009June 12, 2025 by VoxParadox

This is a short (semi-amateurish) film made by production group Fighting Owl Films. They are an independent short and student films production house, formed in 2003. They focus mainly on producing genre films, encompassing horror, sci-fi, action, and more. Why? They explain:

Because it’s what we enjoy. Genre films are a lot of fun to make and they’re just as fun to watch. They allow filmmakers to tell stories, share ideas and sometimes tackle controversial topics with subtlety as opposed to an ‘in your face’ approach.

I found this film to be quite refreshing in its carefully crafted amateur look and mise-en-scene. It starts of slow…but gets really interesting towards the end. The story revolves around a cemetery night watchman, Rue Morgan. Rue is infact an undead, whose duty is to protect other undead zombies from escaping the cemetery. However, in the cemetery, amongst the other undead, there also resides “Trigger” who sets out to escape…any way possible. This film will most certainly leave you amused, if not altogether smiling! The production house also gives us a bit of a teaser on their Dailymotion page.

What if you could live for eternity? What if you had to spend eternity working in a cemetery whose inhabitants can get a little frisky? Rue Morgan has such a curse. Every night, with his trusted pal Herb, a limbless skeleton, he guards the cemetery, making sure nothing gets in or out. This is one of those nights…

Since the whole film is only around 20 minutes long, I will not be giving out any more spoilers before hand. Just watch it and judge for yourself.
