‘Synapse’: Short film by Matthew Kalish

Posted on March 24, 2009June 8, 2025 by VoxParadox

This is a 10 minutes long film, shot on 16 mm, from Matthew Kalish.

You can read more about his work on his personal website, found here .

This short film explores the entity between cause and effect. Kalish tries to the explore the ‘and’, which come between ‘cause’ and ‘effect‘, taking the example of his high school girlfriend as case study.

It is quite a simple take on a very complicated question.

However, this film did manage to win Best Student at Sidewalk Film Fest, and Best Short film at North Carolina Film Fest. It was also a finalist at the USA Film Festival.

See it for yourself, let me know what you think.
